Wedding Cakes by Lisa Notley - Contemporary, modern and traditional celebration cakes based near Dorchester in Dorset.



My policy is never to over book my work. This way I can offer you my personal attention plus the care and attention that your wedding cake deserves. I therefore work on a first come basis, so booking well in advance is advised.


The perfect way to design a wedding cake just for you is with a pre-booked, no obligation design consultation. This usually involves meeting me at my home, where we discuss your wedding, your ideas, your tastes & preferences, looking through any pictures you may have collected, along with my extensive portfolios to enable us to create the perfect cake for your special day. There is always chocolate cake on offer, though if you prefer you can request another flavour to taste.


My hours do vary but as a guide I am normally available from 9.30am through to 6 pm Monday to Friday. Saturday mornings (if not out on cake deliveries) are from 9.30am to 1 pm. If I am working & the answer machine is on please do leave a message & I will get back to you as soon as possible. Please note that design consultations are by appointment only. Consultations are available outside of these times.


All cakes are made using fabulous ingredients, including Wyke farm butter, local eggs, white flour from the Cotswolds, and wholemeal flour from Nether Cerne – which is 5 miles from me! & yummy Belgium chocolate.

Choose from:

Rich chocolate cakes, a dense cake made with Belgium chocolate & filled with chocolate fudge, serve with bowls of raspberries & cream for a fabulous pudding.

Carrot cake, a very moist cake filled with a layer of cinnamon butter cream.

Lemon sponge, drizzled with lemon juice & filled with lemon butter cream.

Rich matured fruit cake covered with a layer of marzipan.

Chocolate, orange & cointreau cake, rich chocolate cake, fresh oranges & cointreau drizzled cake.

Victoria sponge, butter sponge, filled with butter cream & jam.

Sticky Prune & date cake, a great alternative to fruit cake.

Champagne & Strawberry, layers of sponge, sandwiched with champagne butter cream & strawberry conserve.

















This is as a guide only & will depend on who is cutting your wedding cake & the sizes that are cut. Pudding / dessert sizes are cut larger.


I am able to offer local delivery (with in 40 miles) & setting up of your wedding cake to your reception venue if required. Over 40 miles is via my dedicated courier (see below). Prices for both services are available on application.

Your wedding cake may also be collected from me the day prior to your wedding. If the cake is collected we will not be liable for any damage to the cake once it has left my kitchen.


I am delighted to be working closely with a courier company based near Taunton who has huge amounts of experience delivering fragile objects & food products.

The cost of delivery will be determined by the postcode of your reception venue and I am able to get a quote for you on this basis.

Whilst every effort will be made to ensure that your cake reaches you in tip top condition, unfortunately once the cake has left my premises, I am unable to take responsibility for any damage that occurs during transportation.

On receipt of the cake a signature is required; please ensure the cake is checked.


I have a huge range of stands available to hire, though only available to brides ordering a wedding cake from me.

A cheque deposit of £150.00 is required, for stands hired. This is held in your personal file to be returned when the stand is returned to me. Stands are required to be returned within 3 days of your wedding.

Unfortunately I am unable to offer cake stand hire with cakes going via courier. However, the raffia stand which is synonymous with the design of my raffia pillared cakes is available to buy at a cost of £30.00.


Cake samples are available during design consultations. I also take samples of my cakes to taste to the wedding fairs I attend. If you would like a sample slice sent to you please let me know, I normally charge £5.00 for this service, this cost will be refunded if you decide to place a wedding cake order with me.

As the designs, styles, cake flavours & tier sizes varies from cake to cake it is very difficult to give an exact price, though for the year 2011 the price for a simply decorated 3 tier cake will start from £375.00. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your requirements if you would like an exact price. Delivery, setting up and cake stand hire are charged separately if required.


If your wedding cake is to be decorated with fresh flower, it is best for your florist to supply these, as this allows for continuity. I can liaise directly with your florist regarding the floral decorations required for your cake during the week before your wedding, so please do ensure you have ordered these before hand. I can arrange/ attach pre-made flower sprays to your cake on delivery.

NB: Please note that some flowers are not suitable for use as a cake decoration. Ask your florist for details & advise on the toxicity. I cannot be liable for any contamination to our wedding cakes that may arise from their misuse.


To confirm your wedding cake order a non refundable deposit of £60.00 is required. The balance is due 14 days prior to delivery / collection of your cake.
